Varieties

What kind of strawberries do you grow?
We currently have 2 varieties available for You-Pick and We-Pick at Mayberry Farms. Jewel is our most popular variety with medium-large berries, superb quality and awesome flavor. Jewel is best known for having unique shapes and beautiful ‘medallions’, hence it’s name. Cabot is our second variety which has huge berries and excellent flavor. Cabot is known for it’s juicy and plump texture. Recently, we have planted 6 new strawberry varieties that we will work hard to bring to a fruitful harvest in 2019.

Picking strawberries

Which strawberries are the best to pick?
Select firm, fully red berries. Strawberries DO NOT continue to ripen after they are picked.

How many should I pick?
In general, 1 quart of fresh, whole, just-picked strawberries = approximately 3.5 cups hulled, whole berries. In other words, removing the caps/hulls and the occasional mushy berry means you lose 1/4 to 1/2 cup or about 7 to 12% of every quart you pick.

What do I need to bring?
We supply the picking containers. You may want to pack your sunscreen, hats, and/or bug spray. We sell water, food and ice cream at the farm so plan to spend the day with us if you can!

Coming to the farm
