Cherry Honey Cookies

My Grandmother

My grandmother has this cookbook which I inherited that says “Always! Keep this cookbook”. Now that I’m older and have a family of my own I’ve returned to this book on several occasions. Most recently, to find my Grandmother’s coveted cutout cookie recipe. Every year, before Christmas, my Grandmother and I would spend an afternoon after school, baking and decorating cookies for our family Christmas gathering.

New baking traditions

Since I became a mom, I started this tradition with my kids. This year, while I was looking through the book for the cutout recipe, I stumbled upon a “Cherry Honey Cookies” recipe. Since I raise honey bees on our farm, bottle and sell their honey, I was interested to try this recipe for myself.

Without further ado, Cherry Honey Cookies courtesy of my Grandmother’s favorite cookbook:

Cherry Honey Cookies

2 c. flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. salt

1 c. shortening

1 tsp. vanilla

3/4 c. Aunt Bee’s Raw Homemade Honey from Mayberry Farms

1 c. quick cooking oatmeal

1/2 c. chopped walnuts

1/2 c. chocolate chips

1/2 c. maraschino cherries, drained and chopped

Combine in a large bowl all but last 4 ingredients. Blend well.

Add 4 last ingredients.

*For the cherries, I threw them in whole in the Ninja after draining them and gave it a quick pulse.

Mix – I used a spatula to mix in the nuts, chocolate chips, and cherries.

Mix well after adding the last 4 ingredients

Now mix well
